Epic Games has been sparse with information regarding Fortnite and its player counts for years – until now. A new experiment by the developers should give you clarity on how many players are actually playing the colorful Battle Royale.

What’s up with the player numbers? Since the release of Fortnite, the community has grown rapidly. Live events, the Battle Royale, cool skins in Battle Passes and constant changes made sure that many players felt addressed. But despite the growth, as Chapter 2 progressed, Epic Games decided to integrate bots into matchmaking.

It was now assumed that Fortnite is dying and Epic Games is trying to catch the dwindling number of players with bots. Despite player rumours, Epic Games has not released any official player counts – until now. A new experiment by the developers should offer more transparency.

How does the new experiment work? The experiment, according to Fortnite leaker Shiina, is called “CCU in Discover” and was initially only available to 10% of players (via twitter.com), but then also activated for all other fans in Fortnite. The experiment ensures that you can examine the currently active number of players for almost every mode in the mode selection.

What do the player numbers say? If you have now arrived at the mode selection menu, you can record the currently active players under each mode. As of March 31st at 11:01 am, this is how many players are active in the main modes:

  • Build Battle Royale – 163,240 players
  • No-build Battle Royale – 85,740 players

So it can be seen that the majority of players still prefer the build mode. Half as many players are in non-build mode. Note that this is not prime time, however, when most players signed up to gamble. Towards the afternoon, the numbers then also almost double, as Shiina wrote in his Twitter post (via twitter.com) reported.

Did you expect such a number of players? Or did you think Epic Games would have more players ready? Let us know what you think in the comments!
