Twitch: 5 streamers grew up together through Fortnite

In 2017, Fortnite brought the streaming platform Twitch into the mainstream and made careers grow from nothing. A group of streamers around Tyler “Ninja” Blevins rose particularly quickly in the favor of viewers. Now Ninja, TimTheTatman, Nickmercs, CourageJD and SypherPK are teaming up to create the next big battle royale in Fortnite. The release date for “Project V” is the second quarter of 2024.

This is the story behind it: From 2017, streamers played Fortnite alone, in pairs or in groups of four. When multiple streamers played together, they could talk to each other, tease each other, and reach out to each other’s viewers.

This acted like a “fire accelerator” for the careers of the then rather small streamers, who in this way managed to catch up with already established names such as DrDisrespect, Summit1g or Lirik or even to pass them.

At the core of the largest group was streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.

Streamers such as:

• Tim TheTatman – who was a bit slower and was often the group’s “slap man” – is now extremely successful on YouTube
• Nickmercs, a rough guy who later excelled in Apex Legends and Call of Duty
• SypherPK – remained loyal to Fortnite
• CourageJD – was the funny guy, more caster than player. He made early moves to YouTube and 100 Thieves

All 5 have had more or less successful careers since Fortnite in 2017, Nickmercs and TimTheTatman are among the biggest current stars of the shooter world. Ninja’s star has faded a bit now, but he still has the largest Twitch channel in the world in terms of followers.

According to their own statements, the 5 together reach around 140 million followers.

5 streamers say they know what makes battle royale great

That is the plan: The players say.

“We are a group of friends, gamers and content creators who are passionate about Battle Royale. Since 2016 we’ve been playing every BR on the market, competing at the highest level and have built a combined viewership of 140 million players. We know what makes battle royale great.”

The streamers say that since the “Unreal Editor” was released for Fortnite in March 2023, they wanted to do something together and create their own Battle Royale.

They now want to work closely with the community to create a new variant of the Battle Royale within Fortnite with:

• own weapons
• A full map
• Fluid movements
• Unique mechanics

You want to build something “really big”.

The game is designed to be based primarily on player feedback. The game will be called “Project V” and the launch is planned for the second quarter of 2024. Project V will continue to be supplied with content after the launch.
