Sometimes gamertags just fit like a glove. The name says it all for the Twitch streamer “bushcampdad”, because: He achieved the best rank in Fortnite’s ranked mode while sitting around. He rarely makes kills.

Who is the streamer? “bushcampdad” writes in his Twitch info that he is 50 years old, has 2 sons and is not good at Fortnite. He camps in the game while working on his laptop. On Twitch he has 582 followers.

He seems to live for camping in games, as he uses the keywords camping, bushcamping, bushcamper, and treecamper alongside his name to describe his live stream.

He is successful with his game strategy. He reached the highest rank in ranked mode – and without much effort.

This was before the new update that resets the ranks in Fortnite.

In the next match, bushcampdad sits in the middle of the water at the edge of the zone for minutes – actually a totally open target for all opponents. It’s only when he eventually gets shot that he seems to “wake up,” says, “Oh,” and starts swimming.

So if you click through bushcampdad’s stream videos and clips, you’ll see him standing or crouching somewhere waiting. Sometimes in bushes, sometimes in treetops, sometimes behind boxes, sometimes in open water.

“The ranking system is terrible”

How does he react to the rank? bushcampdad says “And now? I’m ranked 28,960, I guess?” Shortly afterwards, he wonders in the stream whether he can climb further up the ranked ladder.

The rise was picked up by Twitter user AussieAntics. On June 16, he posted a screenshot with bushcampdad’s Unreal rank and commented on it:

50-year-old Twitch streamer “BushCampDad” just achieved the rank of Unreal by exclusively camping in every game without getting a single kill.

How are the reactions to it? The tweet received hundreds of comments. User LegitRyanBlake writes, “Buddy found a way to invest zero effort and level up faster.”

There is a discussion about leveling up in ranked mode in the comments. “Gowdiablo” notes that this has to do with the general stats. He hardly rises, even though he got a win with 3 kills. It’s “strange how you climb up.”

trey12_forever writes, “It depends on when you get the kills.” Gowdiablo replies that the point is that he’s working to level up and “this guy gets 0 kills and top 3 and reaches Unreal? That does not make sense.”

User censuall notes, “You can tell that the ranking system in this game sucks.”

Twitter user haruoce reacted to the tweet with “Apex Moment” and alluded to the Apex Legends ranked system, which annoyed many players. One expressed his displeasure in a particularly creative way.
